While conventional AI chat interfaces rely on human prompts and responses, Pion is designed for long-running business tasks such as procurement, pricing, customer service, and payments.

Andon Labs Unveils Pion, a Cloud Platform for Running Autonomous Businesses via AI Agents
The platform includes a suite of tools to allow agents to interact with the real world, such as email, phone, browser, banking, and a secure terminal for command-line operations. To ensure stability, the platform utilizes "Andonos," an overseeing agent that supervises the business agents and provides updates to humans.
Andon Labs has been testing these capabilities for over a year through various experiments, including operating vending machines, a retail store ("Andon Market"), a café ("Andon Café"), and radio stations. In one collaboration with Anthropic, agents were used to manage vending machines in San Francisco, New York, and London, handling everything from sourcing products to customer communication.
The company stated that businesses run on Pion are considered experiments intended to observe how autonomous AI performs in real-world scenarios and where it might face failure. Pion is currently available as a research preview, with users expected to be added via a waitlist.
