OpenAI Unveils GPT-6.1 Sol, "Dots" Agents, and Ultrafast Tier at DevDay 2026

The company introduced GPT-6.1 Sol, an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol designed for agentic coding, computer use, and professional workloads. This model achieves performance near the high-end GPT-6 Astra at approximately one-fifth the cost of standard input and output tokens. To support time-sensitive workloads, OpenAI launched "Ultrafast," a premium speed tier. In Codex, Ultrafast offers up to 8× faster token generation (300 tokens per second), while the API sees up to 6× speed improvements. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available via the API, ChatGPT Work, and Codex for Pro 500 and Enterprise plans.

OpenAI also introduced "Dots," described as capable, always-on agents designed to handle ongoing responsibilities. Supported by GPT-6 Astra, these agents can connect to over 4,000 apps through an ecosystem of plugins. To facilitate these capabilities, the Agents API now supports computer use, allowing developers to build agents that interact with software interfaces to complete tasks. Additionally, the company announced support for the proposed MCP (Model Context Protocol) Events specification, which enables plugins to trigger automations in response to events in connected applications.

New collaborative features for ChatGPT were unveiled, including "Pages," a new document type designed for human and agent collaboration, and "Spaces," a dedicated workspace for teams. Upcoming features include interactive slide creation that allows multiple teammates and agents to edit decks simultaneously. OpenAI also announced a partnership with Amazon to provide "Bedrock Managed Agents," which enables OpenAI agents to run natively within AWS resources.
