Drawgent is a new tool designed to bridge AI coding agents—such as Claude Code, Codex, or opencode—with an Excalidraw whiteboard. By connecting an agent to a live canvas, users can request diagrams via a chat panel or specify changes by writing "AGENT: ..." next to specific parts of a drawing.

The tool functions by having the agent monitor the canvas through screenshots and scene data, performing live edits, and marking tasks as "DONE" once complete. Drawgent can operate by mirroring a local .excalidraw file, keeping the working directory clean by only updating the file when changes occur. It also supports Excalidraw rooms, allowing agents to join as collaborators to edit drawings in a shared, end-to-end encrypted environment.
For local development, Drawgent provides a CLI and an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, enabling agents to use canvas tools through standard interfaces. It supports various environments, including macOS (via cargo-zigbuild) and Docker, and can integrate with Headless Chrome for rendering.
