Claude Code v2.1.283 — Enhanced MCP tool usage and improved startup performance

Claude Code v2.1.283 has been released, introducing several functional improvements and significant stability fixes. Key updates include enhanced visibility for MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools, optimizations to the application startup process, and better handling of session-related edge cases.

New Features and Improvements

  • Enhanced MCP Tooling: The /mcp tool list now supports scrolling and shows more tools simultaneously. Additionally, images returned by MCP tools are now saved to files, allowing them to be opened by other tools like Bash.
  • Performance and Startup: Startup speed has been improved by reusing preconnected API connections and deferring the loading of the interactive UI, agent classifiers, and Artifact tools until first use.
  • UI/UX Enhancements: Added a /doctor prompt-audit command to audit CLAUDE.md files, skills, and commands for legacy prompting patterns. The compaction spinner now tracks token streaming, and various UI pickers have gained improved navigation via mouse wheel and page keys.
  • Configuration and Settings: Added managed settings to control available and denied models, and an opt-in load_test_mode for testing Claude apps gateway deployments.

Bug Fixes

  • MCP and Tooling: Fixed issues where MCP progress notifications were discarded during long-running background tasks and resolved errors occurring when connecting to stateless remote MCP servers.
  • Session and Sync: Resolved issues where SDK sessions lost deferred tool calls or results when a turn ended early. Fixed bugs where user-installed plugins failed to load after moving home or config directories.
  • VS Code and Cloud Sessions: Fixed various UI inconsistencies in VS Code, including improper permission mode indicators and message rendering issues. In Cloud sessions, fixed issues with duplicate posting during server-side restarts.
  • CLI and Terminal: Fixed issues with markdown links rendering as plain text in the Warp terminal and corrected several keybinding and command-line behavior issues.
