Bill Gates Warns of AI Risks in Cyberattacks and Biological Weapon Development, Calls for Government-Led Regulation

Gates pointed out that AI possesses high capabilities in the field of cybersecurity, such as identifying code bugs that humans have overlooked, which poses a danger if applied to cyberattacks. He also noted that the advancement of technologies used to create new molecules with AI is increasing the risk of misuse in biological weapon development. In particular, he warned that tasks that once required nation-state-level resources could now be performed by small groups utilizing the latest AI tools.

In response, Gates argued that voluntary regulation by AI development companies alone is insufficient. He expressed the view that, similar to rockets and aircraft, AI possesses the potential to be extremely dangerous to humanity, necessitating the establishment of government-led safety measures, monitoring systems, and mandatory requirements for all AI models.
