On August 29 (local time), US-based Anthropic announced via its developer-focused X account, "@ClaudeDevs," that the weekly usage limits for its AI coding assistant, "Claude Code," will be permanently set to 25% above the standard tier starting September 14. This change applies to Pro, Max, Team, and per-seat Enterprise plans.
Currently, Claude Code operates under a temporary measure introduced on May 13, which raised limits by 50%. This increase has been extended multiple times, effectively becoming the norm. With the switch on September 14, the 50% boost will be removed and replaced by the permanent 25% increase. Anthropic explained in its X post that this results in an approximate 17% reduction compared to current levels. If the traditional standard limit is set at 100, the current limit is 150, and the limit from September 14 onward will be 125.
The company also stated that it is working on improvements to enhance visibility and manageability of usage. Specific token counts for the weekly limits have not been disclosed, and the actual amount available varies depending on the model used, conversation length, and complexity. For Pro and Max plans, usage of Claude and Claude Code consumes the same limit pool, and additional usage capacity can be purchased after reaching the limit.
