Microsoft unveils Copilot Managed Runtime and major updates to Copilot ecosystem

The Managed Runtime provides the foundation for applications built via Copilot Code, Cowork, and Copilot Studio. It is expected to be accessible within Copilot Code. The platform supports developers by providing access to various functions, including Microsoft Graph for accessing service data and various connectors capable of connecting to over 1,500 data sources. Additionally, the runtime includes a Command Line Interface (CLI) for application deployment and management.

These infrastructure updates accompany a significant reimagining of Microsoft Copilot, which now includes three primary capabilities: Home, Code, and Autopilot. Copilot Home serves as a centralized starting point that integrates chat functionality and Cowork, a tool for delegating tasks to AI. Copilot Code, which leverages the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot, allows users to build custom solutions—such as dashboards or automated workflows—using natural language. Copilot Autopilot is a persistent AI agent designed to perform long-running tasks, such as monitoring channels or following up on threads, even without constant user prompting.
