Demand for OpenAI's latest AI model, "GPT-6 Astra," is expanding at a pace exceeding expectations, and it has emerged that the company may temporarily suspend new subscription registrations.

Thibaut Sautet, a member of OpenAI's development staff, stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the demand for Astra is on an unprecedented scale, noting, "We are doing everything possible to maintain demand, but we have never seen a situation like this before." He further pointed out that if the popularity continues, they may have to temporarily suspend new registrations for the "Pro" plan. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman concurred, stating that providing excellent service to existing customers will be the top priority until the situation stabilizes.

GPT-6 Astra was released on 2026-09-03 and became available for paid plans such as Plus and above. The model is praised for its high coding capabilities and token efficiency, and the eligible user base has been expanded sequentially since its release.
