The Rise of the GTM Engineer: How AI is Creating a New Tech Job Category

A new job category, the "GTM (Go-To-Market) engineer," is emerging across the tech industry as professionals use AI and automation to build automated revenue systems. Clay, a company that coined the term in 2023, reports that approximately 100 GTM engineering job listings appear each month at companies including Cursor, Lovable, and Webflow.

Unlike traditional revenue operations (RevOps) which often focus on maintaining existing processes and data hygiene, GTM engineering focuses on building repeatable, automated systems. Instead of manual tasks—such as researching accounts, cleaning data, and drafting outreach—GTM engineers design workflows that perform these actions at scale.

The shift is driven by the increasing ability of AI to reduce the cost of complex research and engineering tasks. According to Clay, a single person using these automated workflows can now perform the work that previously required a much larger team. This capability allows companies to scale their growth efforts without a proportional increase in headcount.

Kareem Amin, co-founder and CEO of Clay, is set to discuss this transition at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, exploring how AI-native GTM practices are reshaping how companies find and grow their customer bases.
