On 2026-09-10, Anthropic released a report regarding the misuse of artificial intelligence. According to the company's report, Sputnik associates may have used Claude to convert news concerning Romania and the Republic of Moldova into Russian-language propaganda materials.

According to the report, the created materials were distributed via the Sputnik Moldova Telegram channel and RIA Novosti, and were further spread into Russian and Moldovan publishing networks. This was reportedly aimed at creating a "fake verification loop," designed to make it appear as though the same information had been confirmed by multiple independent Sources.

Furthermore, Anthropic expressed the view that, prior to the parliamentary elections on 2025-09-28, Sputnik associates spread fabricated or defamatory information regarding President Maia Sandu. One post, reportedly generated with the assistance of Claude, was said to have received approximately 2,000 views. While the company stated that it cannot determine which specific parts of the acquired materials were created with the assistance of artificial intelligence, it noted that the relevant accounts have been closed.
