Around 10:00 PM Vietnam Time on September 4, 2026, widespread outages occurred simultaneously across three AI chatbot platforms: OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and xAI's Grok.
In ChatGPT, in addition to errors when sending commands, functions such as account authentication, file uploads, voice communication, and image generation were affected. OpenAI reported that serious technical issues had occurred within ChatGPT and the Codex system, which supports programming.
Connection drops were also confirmed for Anthropic's Claude, as well as its programming tool and API, Claude Code. According to a technical representative of the company, the cause of the outage was due to an error in the network infrastructure. Additionally, users of xAI's Grok experienced a state where they could not access processing results.
Anthropic restored its systems around 11:15 PM on the same day, followed by the full restoration of services for ChatGPT and Grok. It remains unclear at this time whether these outages were caused by a shared cloud infrastructure used by the companies or were simply a coincidence in timing.
