On October 7, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in a post on X that when age verification is fully implemented in December, adult interactions, including "erotica," will be permitted for verified adult users based on the principle of "treating adult users as adults."
Earlier this month, the company had already indicated a direction to allow developers to create "mature" ChatGPT applications after the implementation of age verification and management features.
Additionally, Altman touched upon user feedback suggesting that "GPT-4o had more personality" immediately after GPT-5 was switched as the default for ChatGPT, and stated that a version with behavior closer to 4o would also be provided. He explained that while the company had made ChatGPT "quite restrictive" out of consideration for mental health, they acknowledged that this resulted in the service becoming "harder to use and less enjoyable for many users who have no issues," and noted that tools to better detect users' psychological distress have also been introduced.
