On 2025-11-18, Google DeepMind and Google Research announced the weather forecasting AI model "WeatherNext 2." The model generates forecasts eight times faster than previous versions, with resolution improved to as fine as 1-hour intervals. A key feature is its ability to generate hundreds of weather scenarios in less than one minute, which is being utilized to support decision-making for meteorological agencies, such as in cyclone forecasting.

Forecast data will be available through Earth Engine and BigQuery, and an early access program for custom inference has been launched on Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform. Additionally, WeatherNext technology has been integrated into Search, Gemini, Pixel Weather, and the Google Maps Platform Weather API, and it is reported that these updates will be reflected in Google Maps weather information over the coming weeks.
