The "J-HRTI Kanto Data Factory," aimed at collecting training data for Physical AI (AI involving physical movements) expected to automate tasks in the physical world, has commenced operations in Narashino City, Chiba Prefecture. The facility is operated by "J-HRTI," a consortium of five private companies including INSOL-HIGH, which specializes in the fundamental development of humanoid robots. This marks the first time in Japan that a data factory for Physical AI and robotics has been operated by an organization composed solely of domestic private companies.
Inside the facility, 35 humanoid robots repeatedly perform a variety of tasks, such as moving containers and scooping up resin pellets. Operators use VR goggles and controllers to manipulate the robots, creating training datasets by assigning motion labels—such as "pull closer using the left arm"—to the captured footage. During this process, data from failed movements are also utilized as teaching materials, provided the robots can recover independently.
The participating members include five companies: Tsumura, DMS, Fuyo General Lease, Yamazen, and one company whose name remains undisclosed. By adopting a consortium format, the group aims to improve the efficiency of fine-tuning through the sharing of collected data and to distribute equipment costs. J-HRTI aims to implement simple tasks in the field by the end of fiscal year 2026, expand its bases to 10 locations nationwide in fiscal year 2027, and provide industry-specific models by fiscal year 2028.
