President Donald Trump has signed an executive order officially rebranding artificial intelligence as "Super Intelligence" (SI). The order, issued on September 29, 2026, mandates that executive departments and agencies use the terms "Super Intelligence" and "SI" instead of "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, and other non-statutory documents to the maximum extent permitted by law.
The administration stated that the change is intended to reflect the transformative capabilities and limitless opportunities of these technologies, noting that modern frontier systems exceed the original conception of artificial intelligence.
Under the new policy, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) is tasked with submitting proposed legislative language to the President within 60 days. This proposal, developed in consultation with other agencies, aims to establish a formal federal definition of "Super Intelligence" and will assess how the new term modifies or supersedes existing statutory definitions of artificial intelligence.
