OpenAI Launches Virtual Try-On and Favorites Features for ChatGPT Shopping

OpenAI announced the global launch of two new shopping features for ChatGPT on Thursday, aimed at enhancing the online shopping experience through conversational AI. The updates include a virtual try-on capability and a new "Favorites" function.

The virtual try-on feature allows users to see how clothing or accessories might look on them by uploading a selfie or a full-body photo. Users can also upload screenshots of specific items to visualize them on their own image. According to OpenAI, this feature utilizes the newly launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which is designed to provide more natural lighting, richer textures, more reliable instruction following, and reduced generation latency.

The "Favorites" feature enables users to save discovered products into an in-app Library for future reference. The company noted that these saved items are stored alongside the user's try-on images.

Beyond these specific tools, ChatGPT can assist with shopping through style descriptions—where users ask for pieces to complete a specific look—or by identifying items from photos of celebrity outfits. This functionality moves the assistant into the fashion discovery space currently occupied by platforms like Pinterest and Google.
