Reports from 404 Media have revealed that human contractors are reviewing some of the prompts entered and images uploaded by users in Microsoft's AI assistant, "Microsoft Copilot."

According to internal documents obtained by the media outlet, at least several hundred contractors are involved in quality assessment. These staff members compare the original prompts and images uploaded by users with multiple editing results generated by Copilot, judging factors such as accuracy to instructions, the presence of unnatural distortions, and the overall quality of the finished product.

According to testimonies from contractors, the review process includes sensitive instructions, such as requests to change images into sexual poses, as well as images uploaded by users that do not have facial blurring.

Microsoft has disclosed in its Privacy FAQ that it may review some conversations for the purposes of product improvement and ensuring safety. This includes images and files uploaded to Copilot.

A company spokesperson explained that, as stated in the Terms of Use, customer data is used as part of efforts to improve products and ensure compliance with the Code of Conduct.
