Axios reported that xAI, led by Elon Musk, has signed an agreement to make its AI model "Grok" available for use in US military classified systems. A senior official from the US Department of Defense has confirmed this fact.
Until now, Anthropic's "Claude" was the only model available for systems involving highly classified information tasks, weapons development, and battlefield operations. However, due to conflicts surrounding security measures, the Department of Defense has begun to feel the need for models to serve as alternatives to Anthropic.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is scheduled to meet with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Sources expect this meeting to take place in a tense atmosphere.
Meanwhile, in non-classified US military systems, Google's "Gemini" and OpenAI's "ChatGPT" are also available in addition to Grok. Google and OpenAI have continued negotiations regarding the transition into classified environments.
According to a report by the New York Times, Google is close to reaching an agreement regarding the classified use of Gemini, while OpenAI has not yet reached that stage.
