On August 31, NVIDIA and MediaTek announced an expansion of their collaboration in AI computing infrastructure. NVIDIA will invest $3.5 billion (approximately ¥560 billion) in convertible bonds issued by MediaTek. Details regarding the terms of issuance have not been disclosed.
The two companies have already collaborated on the "GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip," an SoC for NVIDIA's small-scale AI development machine, "DGX Spark." This latest move expands that partnership to include capital investment.
The collaboration focuses on three primary areas. In AI infrastructure, MediaTek will adopt NVIDIA's "NVLink Fusion" platform. This will provide a pathway for hyperscalers and others to integrate custom XPUs into NVIDIA's rack infrastructure.
In the field of local AI, the companies will jointly develop chips for consumer PCs and workstations across multiple generations. Furthermore, they intend to continue developing platforms for software-defined vehicles (SDV) in the automotive sector.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that he values MediaTek's design technology and expertise in power efficiency. MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai commented that the investment will strengthen collaboration ranging from cloud AI infrastructure to automotive applications.
